Photo showing this pattern as it was being hooked by my friend Sharon A. Smith. It is an adaptation of an early design that was originally created as a shirred rug. The rug was photographed for a book featuring Jan Whitlock's beautiful rug collection. The title of the book is American Sewn Rugs: Their History With Exceptional Examples by Jan Whitlock.

"The Iowa Floral" pattern was named by me as a nod to Barb Riggan and Cindy Hershberger, hooking friends from Iowa who originally requested this pattern.  The original shirred rug was not from Iowa.
